SOLIDAR

Solidar, which is a wonderful organization, works to help needing people as well as foreign countries where the (economic and political) situation is not really favorable.

It was founded in 1936 by a Swiss group and has led, for the past 75 years, 50 projects in 12 different countries. They also made huge adverts to make people aware of social and economic injustices all over the world.

Solidar is involved in the fight against these kinds of problems in several countries (e.g. China, Bosnia, Kosovo, Nicaragua, South Africa, South America and so on...)

Its goals :

Its strategy to fight poverty is to focus its strategies into 4 ways:

• Find work for poor people and improve their working conditions
• Develop rural areas (by giving work and food to the local population)
• Humanitarian aid in case of disaster and in emergency situation 
• Make human rights respected in countries where the democracy is not yet established

This organization is very special because it has done a lot in the past, and not only in poor countries. For example, when the Berlin Wall fell down and the situation was not sure, it help people find work by creating jobs. Thank to Solidar, East of Europe had works after the Fall.

But of course, it is also active in poor countries. For instance, in 1970, it sent volunteers in Nicaragua to educate children who couldn't read and write. Or in 1990, it sent humanitarian aid in Bosnia and Kosovo, that were back then at war.
