Established
by Edmond Kaiser on the 22nd of June 1960, Terre Des Hommes was
founded because of an article published by the weekly « Réforme » on refugees camps
in France during the Algerian war. Edmond Kaiser, who was shocked by this
revelation about the poverty of more than 1'500'00 Algerians, decided to take
about hundred Algerian children to France in holidays camps. That's how Terre
Des Hommes was created in 1960.
The
essential mission of Terre des Hommes is to help children, that lives in war
situation or who were victims of a natural disaster.
They
organize street shows, public manifestation like « la marche de l'espoir », the
day of children’s right, the world’s day of food and they sell oranges or art
works. The collected money is sent to poor children.
This organization
is special because everybody can participate and help the poor children and
because it only helps children.
People
should donate to this organization because children are the future. Each child
should have the right to get an education.
